With this technique, you can reveal an image by making it look like it’s being ‘painted’ on the screen. Paint Strokes don’t behave the same as regular shapes, so it can be a little confusing how to one it as a mask. Here’s how to do it:

Create an Animated Brush Stroke:
1. Select the Paint Stroke Tool icon from the toolbar
2. Paint the stroke across your stage as you’d like it to animate
3. Select your new Paint Stroke on the stage.
3. Bring up the HUD & change the Shape Style to Liquid > Ink Bleed 01 Heavy
4. Scrub back in your timeline to review your brush stroke animation

Convert the Animated Brush Stroke to a Mask:
1. In your Layers pallet, right-click (control-click) the object you’d like masked
2. Select “Add Image Mask” from the contextual menu
3. Drag your new Paint Stroke later onto your Image Mask layer

You can create multiple layers of these, to give your project overlaying layers of animation reveals. Pretty cool stuff!
